I continue with No Longer a Servant. Part 3. Today, we will delve into the transformative power of Jesus and the new covenant He established to change our status and standing with God. We will explore Luke 22:19 and discover how Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, set us free and brought a profound shift in our lives.

Introduction

Jesus, the Messiah, came into this world with a divine purpose—to free the captives (Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18). This liberation was not limited to physical freedom but extended to our spiritual bondage. Through His sacrificial death on the cross and resurrection, Jesus paid the ransom for our sins, purchasing us from the grip of darkness and making us servants of God. However, He didn’t stop there. Jesus did something unprecedented, changing the course of history and our eternal destiny. 081911

1: The New Covenant and Our Redeemed Status

Jesus gave us a new covenant, a testament of His love and grace. With this covenant, our status and standing with God were forever transformed. Once slaves/servants to sin, we were redeemed and called to freedom in Christ. This covenant, sealed with His blood, released us from the shackles of our past and positioned us as children of God.

2: The Fall of Adam and Eve and Our Servanthood

From the Fall of Adam and Eve, sin enslaved humanity. The consequences of their disobedience affected every generation that followed. We were born separated from God, destined to be servants/slaves of sin. The weight of our transgressions burdened us, and no human effort could break the chains that held us captive.

3: The Ransom Paid and Our Purchased Freedom

But God devised a plan for our redemption in His infinite love and mercy. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the weight of our sins and pay the ultimate ransom on our behalf. As Jesus died on the cross and triumphantly rose again on the third day, the price for our freedom was fully paid. God purchased us not to be His servants, but His people, and our lives were forever changed.

A: The King Who Sets Us Free

Jesus, the King of Kings, did something no earthly king had ever done. He broke the chains that bound us and set us free from the dominion of sin. In John 15:15, Jesus declared that we are no longer servants but friends. He elevated our status from mere servants to beloved companions, walking in an intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe. 081911

B: The Symbolic Bread and Wine

In Luke 22:19, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and shared it with His disciples during the Last Supper. He declared, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” Through this act, Jesus instituted a powerful symbol of His sacrifice—the bread representing His body, broken for our salvation. He invited us to partake in communion, remembering His unfathomable love and the freedom He secured for us.

C: The New Covenant Sealed in His Blood

Following the sharing of bread, Jesus took another cup of wine and proclaimed, “This cup is the new covenant between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.” Jesus ratified the new covenant through His blood, an everlasting testament of His love, forgiveness, and restoration. It signified the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan and marked the beginning of a new era for humanity. We became His People.

D: Our Transformed Identity in Christ

The new covenant secured our freedom from sin and transformed our very identity. In Christ, we are no longer defined by our past mistakes and failures. We are now children of God, co-heirs with Christ, and recipients of His abundant grace. Our standing before God is no longer marked by guilt and condemnation but by righteousness and acceptance. We are no longer servants.
